Compression Packing in industry.
Compression packings – one of the oldest sealing techniques remains indispensable in industry today with new types of materials.
Challenge
The valve original OEM packing sets (made of vermiculite) were having continuous problems of leakage since the start up of the plant.
Solution
POWERPACK 9021-HMS sets were installed in globe and butterfly valves on the hot molten salts circuit. POWERPACK 1220-MS sets were installed in the cold molten salts circuit.
Challenge
The starting point was that the customer had problems with a competitor product that was used until then. Here, the lifetime was very short, especially in the tower, and the manufacturer’s support did not meet customer’s expectations.
Solution
As the best solutions POWERPACK 9020-HMS, 9021-HMS and 1220-MS were presented. In addition FLEXSEAL® Spiral Wound Gasket with THERMa-PUR® was offered.
Challenge
Incorrect installation caused equipment failures. Seat lifetime should be increased and higher temperature limits compared to standard PTFE and elastomers should be achieved with a new solution.
Solution
After some research and investigation, rubber/PTFE diaphragms were replaced with GYLON® Style 3522 diaphragms in High Pressure pumps.
Challenge
The customer was dissatisfied with the service life of their diaphragms in AODD pumps.
Solution
The case was investigated by Garlock. The perfect solution was found to be Garlock ONE-UP®.

The manufacturer had the need to increase operating temperature up to 150 °C keeping good flexibility.

The original membranes were not lasting as expected in the customer’s applications. Additionally, some pumps used for liquid transfer were regularly failing.

Cocoa and chocolate processing can be very critical because when the cocoa beans are cracked oil and grease are released, thus presenting major challenges for many traditional sealing materials.
Solution
Garlock made trials of both GAR-SEAL® PTFE Butterfly Valve (DN 80-150) as well as GYLON BIO-ASEPT® seals.
Challenge
Our customer wanted to replace PTFE lined valves in a sulfuric acid plant and in an ore plant for longer service life.
Solution
The customer agreed to install GAR-SEAL® with PTFE abrasive in the ore plant and cell containers with very abrasive media.
